About
My name is Gracey and I’m a writer and artist from Mississippi based in New York City. My main medium is oil pastel on paper, although I’m exploring with raw canvas, markers and acrylic paints.
My style originated at childhood summer camp where I had no way to capture the magic of a month in the mountains other than an occasional black and white film photo. Desperate to remember the fun, energy and wonder, I began drawing sketches of night swimming under the stars, or white water rafting with towering trees on either side of the river.
Although I now have a camera at my finger tips at all times, I find drawing captures the feeling of a moment more like a film photo can. That’s what I hope to do with my drawings, capture the joy, chaos, warmth, bitterness, curiosity, and energy of New York City as I’m presently experiencing it, all the while keeping the child-like the wonder alive.
